Charleston
Bursting with color and blossoms, Charleston is a welcome escape that can satisfy the cravings of anyone who has also visited New Orleans, but is looking for a little more polish with their patina. The food is excellent, the architecture is enchanting, and the drinks are heavy handed; history is steeped into the city like sugar in the sweet tea you’ll order after a long walk along King Street.

Trip Snapshot
I visited Charleston with a group of girls one May - we found a house large enough to fit the 10 of us, which served as a home base for our escapades. The days were left free for exploring and wandering, but each evening we came together for a meal at a local culinary institution.
Except for the often overbearing heat and humidity, Charleston is very walkable - you won’t need a car to get around once you’ve set up camp. Plus, wandering in and out of the neighborhoods is half of the fun. Once you’ve fueled up on coffee or a cocktail, take a turn South and see where it leads you. You’ll discover old homes, each painted a magnificent color, tucked among old oak trees and along cobblestone streets.
Eat & Drink
The food scene in Charleston is small but mighty. Start your day off strong with a biscuit, supplement throughout with oysters, and end on a high note at Husk, a locally-beloved and nationally-recognized destination. You’ll have plenty to choose from throughout the day, so long as modern-takes on classic southern foods are well within your comfort zone.
Shop & Stay
Charleston is a distinct shopping destination - you won’t find the boutiques and shops that lace the streets of NYC or Atlanta, but you’ll find plenty to write home about, including Candlefish and LAKE Pajamas. There are also a number of boutique hotels in Charleston that deserve just as much of the spotlight as the shopping.
Walk & Wander
This is a great city for exploring - you can cover so much in a short amount of time, and the homes are unlike much else you would find in the US. Whereas the architecture of New Orleans is known for its grit and its grandeur, Charleston has a spunky, elegant take, achieved through bright pops of color and an abundance of flower boxes.
